Shriners International is a masonic organization founded in 1870 with the primary mission of supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children. The mission of Shriners can be summarized as follows:
1. Providing specialized pediatric care: The main focus of the Shriners is to support and operate a network of Shriners Hospitals for Children across North America (Canada, the United States and Mexico). These hospitals provide expert medical care, research, and educational opportunities to health professionals, in order to provide medical services to children up to the age of 18, regardless of their family's ability to pay. The hospitals specialize in a wide range of pediatric orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate.
2. Improving the lives of children: The Shriners are committed to enhancing the lives of children with physical disabilities, burns, and other medical needs. Our goal is to help children overcome challenges, improve their quality of life, and reach their full potential by providing compassionate, comprehensive, and innovative medical care.
3. Conducting research and education: In addition to providing medical care, Shriners Hospitals for Children actively engage in research and education initiatives. They conduct studies to advance medical knowledge, improve treatment methods, and develop innovative therapies for pediatric conditions. Shriners Hospitals also offer training programs for medical professionals to foster expertise in pediatric care.
4. Supporting the Shriners fraternity: The Shriners fraternity is a social and philanthropic organization that provides a supportive community for its members and families. Shriners engage in various charitable activities, fundraising efforts, and community outreach programs to support their mission of helping children in need.
Overall, the mission of Shriners is to improve the lives of children through specialized medical care, research, education, and a strong commitment to philanthropy. Our focus on providing high-quality, compassionate care to children regardless of their families' ability to pay has made a significant impact on more than 1.5 million children, from over 180 countries, over the last 100 years.
